The latest trend in the market is for pursuing a professional course. The best brains, therefore, go to technical institutions, leaving the field of humanities only for the leftovers. In our times money and the ways to earn it is all that matters. That is why there is a beeline for courses that have a ready market. This has resulted in the growing belief that studying arts is a waste of time. But this is a wrong notion. There are many exciting careers where students of the humanities alone with excel, for example, media, fashion technology, advertisement, sport and many other such professions. A proficiency in the subjects like literature, psychology, economics, sociology etc. are highly relevant. These subjects are vital for the intellectual and aesthetic growth of a human being. Without these fields of knowledge, the educational institutions will be producing only the data-calculating technocrats who will never have any love for traditions, history and culture. In such a scenario the society will look like a big workshop with robots moving about here and there.
It is advisable that at least one of the arts subjects should be made compulsory even for the students of technical courses or fields. This will make them better scientists, technocrats, business persons and above all aesthetically better human beings.
